Dr. G. Soma Sekharam, was born on February 1, 1961, in Andhra Pradesh. With a degree in Veterinary Science and a specialization in Animal Reproduction & Gynecology, he dedicated his career to transform the livestock and agricultural sectors. Starting his career as a Veterinary Assistant Surgeon, he served in many departments in various cadres and retired as Director of Animal Husbandry, Andhra Pradesh, on January 31, 2021.
Throughout his career, he led innovative initiatives to uplift the livelihoods of livestock owners, improving animal health, productivity, and financial stability. As a key reformer, he restructured the Animal Husbandry Department in Andhra Pradesh, that enhanced the efficiency of service delivery and resource utilization.
Groundbreaking initiatives such as Oorura Pashu Grasa Kshetralu and Mega Pashu Grasa Kshetralu, the introduction of Total Mixed Ration Feeding practices, the establishment of a Semen Station in the private sector, Mini Gokulam, and the Livestock Loss Compensation Scheme were all introduced in the state, each of these initiatives has left a lasting impact on the sector, driving progress and sustainability.
Recognizing his services, he has been honored with 27 prestigious awards from various organizations, a testament to his excellence and influence in the field.
